Philly Cheesesteak Pizza is what happens when two all-time comfort food favorites join forces. It’s got that golden, crispy crust with a soft, chewy center; it’s the dream base for all that cheesy, beefy Philly cheesesteak goodness piled on top. It might be one of the best spins on pizza I’ve ever made.

If there are two things my family never gets tired of, it’s Philly cheesesteaks and pizza. Cheesy, meaty, totally comforting, what’s not to love? So, this pizza is one of those meals that always hits the spot.
Pizza is a guaranteed win around here. But let’s be honest, sometimes you wanna mix it up a little. That’s where fun twists like these, pepperoni pizza breadsticks, or pizza pinwheels come in. They have the same delicious flavors, just with a little something different to keep things interesting.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Bold Flavor in Every Bite: Juicy steak, melted cheese, and sautéed veggies create an unforgettable flavor combination.
- Easy-to-Make: Uses simple ingredients and comes together without a lot of work, so it’s beginner-friendly.
- Perfect for Sharing: Like these French bread pizzas, this one is great for family meals, game nights, or parties.

Ingredients
- Active dry yeast: Yeast is used to give your pizza dough a great rise. Using fresh yeast is essential, so don’t forget to check the expiration date.
- Bread flour: Bread flour has a higher protein content than all-purpose flour, which gives this pizza crust that chewy and crispy crunch we all love.
- Pantry Staples: You will need olive oil, salt, sugar, pepper, Slap Ya Mama®, and garlic salt, which are all common pantry staples. Feel free to use any type of oil and salt that you have on hand, but we recommend using regular granulated sugar for the best results.
- Flank Steak: Thinly sliced flank steak works best for this recipe. If flank steak is not available, you can use skirt or sirloin steaks as substitutes.
- Produce: Green bell peppers and onions are the main vegetables in this recipe; they give this pizza the classic Philly cheesesteak flavor.
- Dairy: Sliced provolone cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, heavy whipping cream, milk, and parmesan cheese are all used in this recipe to create a creamy and cheesy sauce, and a gooey cheesy topping for your pizza.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Make it Spicy: Add sliced jalapeños or drizzle some hot sauce over the top for a kick of heat like we did with these jalapeno cheddar biscuits.
- Switch the Protein: Don’t love steak? Substitute it with grilled chicken or shredded roast beef or leftover beef shoulder roast.
- Cheese It Up: Try cheddar, American cheese, or a Cheese Whiz drizzle for original Philly cheesesteak vibes.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
Ready to enjoy a slice of the cheesy, meaty pizza? Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and flour your pizza pan, and let’s get to baking.
- Step 1: Bloom the Yeast. Dissolve the sugar and yeast in a bowl of warm water. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes or until it’s bubbly.
- Step 2: Add the remaining dough ingredients. Add the flour, oil, and salt and mix until combined. Allow the dough to rest for 5 minutes.
- Step 3: Prep the dough. Roll or stretch the dough into a large circle. Lightly brush olive oil over the top of the crust and use a fork to poke holes into the dough.
- Step 4: Prebake the crust. Place the dough on the lightly floured pizza pan and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
- Step 5: Cook the steak. Cook the steak, onions, and peppers in a large skillet with oil until the steak is mostly cooked and the vegetables are tender.
- Step 6: Make the sauce. Heat the milk and heavy cream in the same skillet until it reaches a boil. Add the Parmesan cheese and ¼ cup of mozzarella cheese, and stir to melt. Reduce the heat, add the seasonings, and cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Step 7: Assemble the pizza. Spread the sauce evenly over the crust and top with provolone cheese. Spread the meat and veggies over the top of the cheese and add mozzarella cheese on top.
- Step 8: Bake the pizza. Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Serve and enjoy!
Appetizers are essential for meals, and we think there is no better appetizer for pizza than these spicy mozzarella sticks or these marinara meatballs.

Expert Tips
- Thin Slices Are Key: Freeze your steak for 10-15 minutes before slicing to make slicing easier.
- Don’t Overload the Dough: While toppings are delicious, too many can make your crust soggy. Keep balance in mind.
- Preheat Your Oven: A super-hot oven is crucial for a crispy, restaurant-tasting crust.
- Prebaking the Crust: It’s important to partially cook the crust before adding the toppings. Also, don’t forget to poke holes in the pizza dough before baking so the air can escape while cooking in the oven. This allows your pizza dough to rise all together.
Storage Directions
- Storing: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days or you can freeze it for up to three months.
- Reheating: Warm your pizza in a preheated 350°F oven for about 5-7 minutes for the best texture. Microwaving works in a pinch but may soften the crust. If it’s frozen, be sure to defrost before reheating.
- Make Ahead: Prepare your dough and toppings 1-2 days ahead. Assemble and bake fresh when you’re ready to serve.
