Steak Fried Rice Egg Rolls

Jump to Recipe

Steak fried rice egg rolls are a beefy, delicious twist on both egg rolls and fried rice. Classic fried rice full of deep Asian flavor gets a twist thanks to cubed sirloin steak. Then, it’s wrapped up in egg roll wrappers and fried until golden brown. Served with dipping sauce, these can be a delicious appetizer or main dish.

I love taking classic dishes and tweaking them to make something new and unexpected. It’s a fun way to make all my favorite dishes more interesting while still maintaining the core flavors that made me enjoy them so much in the first place.

This recipe has a double twist because I replaced the classic chicken or pork in the fried rice with beef, and then I stuffed it into egg rolls instead of the classic mixture we normally think of. The results? A beefy, Asian-inspired, hand-held feast that has all the flavors of a takeout meal in one package.

Storage

Refrigerate these egg rolls for up to 3 days in an airtight container. For longer storage, wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them for up to 3 months in an airtight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

To reheat the egg rolls in a batch, place them on a baking sheet and cook at 350 until heated through and crisp again. You can also microwave individual egg rolls at 1-minute intervals until heated through, although they won’t be very crispy.

What to Serve with Egg Rolls

Serve these egg rolls with your favorite dipping sauces for a full meal you can hold in your hand. They also make an excellent side to pair with your favorite Asian mains like egg foo young, sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, and more. They’re prefect with everything you love from your local take-out spot.

Tips

  • Fresh rice works well for this recipe, but for optimal results, try using cold, day-old rice.
  • Keep the heat at medium when searing the steak. This allows them to get a good sear without overcooking.
  • Scramble your eggs until they’re firm but wet. They’ll finish cooking to perfection when you add them to the rice.
  • For deeper, more complex flavor, use the same pan for the entire dish, setting aside the previous ingredients and using the pan for the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best rice for fried rice?

Traditionally, medium-grain white rice is used for fried rice. However, any rice can work. Just be sure to use cold, day-old rice to prevent sticking.

How do you know when steak is done?

The beauty of steak is that it doesn’t have to be cooked through for food safety. Steak is perfectly done when it’s seared on the outside and your preferred pink color on the inside.

How do you scramble eggs for fried rice?

To scramble eggs for fried rice, cook them about 80% of the way. This means the eggs will be firm but still wet looking. Cooking them to this point allows them to finish cooking when you add them to the fried rice, keeping them from drying out.

How do you know when oil is hot enough for frying?

The most accurate way to know when oil is hot enough is to use a thermometer. The heat should register between 350 and 400 degrees. If you don’t have a thermometer, use the handle of a wooden spoon. Dip the handle into the oil carefully. If it’s ready, you’ll see a lot of small bubbles form around the handle and start to rise to the top of the oil.

      HI Rhonda,
Yes, you sure can. Make sure to coat them in a little oil first and place in a single layer. I’d preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and cook for 10-15 minutes flipping over half way through. Let us know how they turned out for you if you do try them this way. I hope this helps. ๐Ÿ™‚
