Tips
This is a super easy recipe that comes together in next to no time. It’s quick and easy, and almost impossible to mess up. And although you can’t mess it up, there are some things to remember that will help you make a truly crowd-pleasing dessert that will have everyone coming back for more.
Bake the Crust – Or Not
You don’t have to bake any part of this dessert, however, if you want to add about 10 minutes of baking to the recipe, you can bake the graham cracker crust for even more amazing flavor. I bake my crust whenever possible to add a nice depth of flavor, but in a pinch, you can simply press it into the bottom of the dish. It will still be delicious.
Let the Blueberries Cool
It’s important to let the blueberry mixture cool before adding it on top of the cream cheese mixture. If you don’t allow the blueberry mixture to completely cool, the heat from the blueberries will cause the cream cheese layer to melt and sort of “goo out” all over the place. To make things easier, make the blueberry mixture first so that it can cool while you make the rest of the dessert.
Beat the Heavy Cream Thoroughly
This is a step that a lot of people have trouble with. Many people who are new to the process see peaks form and think that they’re finished. Remember, you need STIFF peaks. That means that when you make a peak, it stays in place. If the peak begins to slowly fall back into the whipped cream, you need to whip it more.
Variations
This dessert is so quick, easy, and delicious, but it doesn’t start there. There are also a couple of things you can do to change it up and make either a completely different recipe or a recipe that’s even more delicious.
Make Your Own Whipped Cream
If you like, you can make your own whipped cream to go with this blueberry frozen dessert rather than buying Cool Whip. Either work, and either is delicious, but making the dessert with homemade whipped cream can take it to an entirely new level. It’s a great way to venture out into more baking options when you’ve mastered the recipe.
Use Different Fruits
You can use a variety of fruits for this recipe. In fact, you can use almost any fruit you like so long as the size is right. We made a raspberry frozen dessert that will be posted soon that is super delicious too. Dice apples and make the filling per directions, adding a little bit of cinnamon to the mix. Get creative with almost any fruit.
