  • Just 4 Fresh Ingredients: Fresh-squeezed lemons, juicy blackberries, a little sugar, and cold water—this lemonade is simple, sweet, and full of flavor.
  • A Family Favorite: Sweet, tart, and totally refreshing, it’s a go-to drink for hot summer days. Kids love the fruity punch, and adults appreciate how refreshing it s!
  • Perfect for a Crowd: Easy to double (or triple!), this blackberry flavored lemonade recipe is made for backyard barbecues, birthday parties, and any summer gathering.

Ingredients

  • Lemons: Freshly squeezed juice from 5 large lemons in this homemade blackberry lemonade brings bright, tangy acidity that balances the sweetness and makes this lemonade ultra-refreshing.
  • Blackberries: The star fruit of the show! They bring bold color, a juicy sweet-tart flavor, and that signature purple color.
  • Sugar: Adds just the right amount of sweetness to mellow out the tart lemons and berries. Instead of sugar, you can use simple syrup or your favorite kind of sweetener.
  • Water: The base that brings it all together—diluting the mix enough for a smooth, drinkable beverage.
  • Ice: Keeps things cool and crisp, chilling the pitcher and making every glass cool and refreshing.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

Variations

  • Switch Up the Fruit: This recipe works great with other berries like blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries. For a twist, try melon or mango—they bring a juicy sweetness that’s just as refreshing.
  • Make It a Slushy: Pop your pitcher in the freezer until it starts to firm up slightly, then stir to enjoy a frozen blackberry lemonade that’s extra cold.
  • Spike It: Turn it into a blackberry lemonade cocktail with a splash of vodka, rum, or gin. Bourbon works too, if you want something a little bolder.
  • Add a Floral Touch: Make a blackberry hibiscus lemonade by steeping dried hibiscus petals or adding a splash of caffeine-free hibiscus tea. It’ll bring a beautiful pink hue, extra tartness, and subtle floral notes.

How to Make Lemonade with Blackberries

Making this lemonade from scratch is surprisingly simple—and totally worth it! With just a few minutes and a handful of ingredients, you’ll be sipping on a cool, colorful summertime drink. Grab a pitcher, your 5 ingredients, and let’s get started:

  1. Step 1: Juice the Lemons. Squeeze the juice from your lemons into a small bowl and set it aside.
  2. Step 2: Blend the Berries. In a blender or Vitamix, combine the blackberries, sugar, and water. Blend until smooth, then stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  3. Step 3: Strain and Serve. Hold a fine mesh strainer over a pitcher filled with ice and pour the mixture through to catch the seeds. Give it a good stir, garnish with lemon slices and a few extra blackberries if you’d like, and serve!

Serving Suggestions

This homemade lemonade isn’t just a thirst-quencher—it’s the perfect sidekick to all your favorite summer eats. Here are a few tasty ways to pour it up:

  • Serve it at your next cookout with grilled chicken sliders, chili dog sliders, or these easy steak and potato foil packs.
  • Pair with lighter bites like jalapeño popper pastry braid, cheesy corn dip, and habanero salsa.

Expert Tips

  • Wash and Sort: Rinse and sort the blackberries to remove any that are too soft or moldy. But be sure to do this just before making the lemonade.
  • Use a Fine Mesh Strainer: A mesh strainer with small holes works best to catch all the seeds.
  • Maximize the Juice: Roll lemons firmly or microwave for 20–30 seconds to get the most juice with less effort.
  • Storing: Keep it in a sealed pitcher or airtight container in the fridge for 5 to 7 days, or pour the lemonade into a freezer-safe container, leaving about ½ inch of space at the top for expansion and freeze for up to 3 months, then thaw in the fridge when ready.
  • Make Ahead: Prep the lemonade the night before and keep it chilled in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. The flavors get even better as they sit!

Recipe FAQs

Can I use frozen blackberries instead of fresh?

Absolutely! Use the same amount, and blend them just like you would fresh. No need to thaw—just toss them in and go.

Can I make it fizzy?

Yes! Swap out the water for sparkling water to make a bubbly version. For more bold flavor, try club soda or lemon-lime soda instead.

The blackberries added a nice, natural color to the drink, and the tartness was well-balanced without needing too much extra sugar.
