Cherry pie is one of those classic dessert recipes that everyone always seems to love. Even people who don’t like pie love cherry pie, and why wouldn’t they? With all that sweet filling inside that golden crust, it’s the best.

Crescent dough is also another favorite of almost everyone, especially when it comes to desserts. Desserts like blueberry cream cheese crescent rolls combine sweet, fruit flavor with delicious dough that’s soft on the inside and golden and flaky on the outside. It’s irresistible.

Our cherry pie bombs combine the best of both worlds with a sweet, homemade cherry filling stuffed inside crescent dough balls that are fried and then baked to perfection. Because the only thing better than a sweet treat is a fried sweet treat!

Variations

  • Fillings: Use the filling recipe with fresh fruits like berries, apples, pears, peaches, or your favorites to create different flavors.

Step 6: Roll the bombs in cinnamon sugar when cool enough to handle. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Tips

  • Stir your filling mixture continuously while cooking it to prevent sticking and scorching.
  • Only fry a few bombs at a time, so the oil stays nice and hot.
  • Remove your bombs from the oil as soon as they’re golden. You’re not cooking them through. You’re just crisping them.
  • A slotted spoon is the best way to remove your bombs from the oil. It limits mess while moving the bombs from the pan to the plate.

Cherry Pie Bombs FAQ

What are cherry pie bombs?

Cherry pie bombs are dessert bites made with cherry pie filling and crescent roll dough. They’re fried first for color and then baked until cooked through.

Why were my pie bombs soggy?

If your oil isn’t hot enough or if you crowd the pan, your bombs will be soggy. This is due to the low temperature of the oil. It prevents the bombs from crisping immediately, resulting in them absorbing the oil as they cook.

Can I use pie filling in my pie bombs?

You sure can! We love homemade filling, but store-bought filling will absolutely work.

I made these cherry pie bombs recently and they were a blast. Theyโ€™re so much easier to put together than a full pie, and that warm cherry filling tucked inside the flaky crust was the perfect quick treat.
