How to Make Italian Sausage Pasta

Making this recipe is incredibly easy. It only takes a little bit of stovetop cooking and about 30 minutes, and you’ll be all done. There’s nothing to it.

Step 1: Cook the Sausage

Melt the butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat, then cook the sausage links until browned on all sides. Remove them from the pot and slice them into ยฝ-inch thick pieces. Return them to the pan.

Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef

Add the ground beef, onions, and jalapenos to the Dutch oven and cook them until the meat is no longer pink and the onions and peppers are soft. Drain the grease and return the mixture to the pan.

Step 3: Add the Sauce Ingredients

Add the oregano, basil, and pepper and stir. Then, pour in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and diced tomatoes. Stir, cover, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4: Add the Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hot Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeno, stem and seeds removed, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 14.5 ounce can petite diced tomatoes
  • 4 ounce diced green chiles
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 16 ounce rotini pasta
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  • In a large dutch oven over medium heat, melt butter and cook sausage links until browned on all sides.
  • Once sausage has browned, remove from pan and slice into ยฝ inch thick pieces, then return to pan.
  • Add ground beef, onions, and jalapenos.
  • Cook until meat is no longer pink and onions and peppers are soft. Drain grease and return to pan.
  • Sprinkle oregano, basil, and pepper into the meat mixture. Stir to combine.
  • Pour tomato sauce, tomato paste, and diced tomatoes, into the pan. Stir. Cover and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirred occasionally.
  • Add beef broth and pasta to the pan. Stir and continue cooking until the pasta is tender.
  • Remove from heat and add shredded cheese. Stir until the cheese has melted.
  • Serve hot with a side salad and crusty bread.
