Ingredients

This recipe only uses simple ingredients that you can find easily at your local grocery store. You’ll probably have several of them in your kitchen already.

  • Chicken breasts: Use boneless and skinless chicken breasts to make this dish easy. Chicken tenderloins or chicken thighs also work great too!
  • Seasoning for chicken: A sprinkle of garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper add great flavor.
  • Frozen cheese tortellini: These make this dish so easy to make! Choose your favorite brand.
  • Butter: Used for cooking the chicken. It adds a touch of richness that really enhances the flavor of the chicken. You can also use olive oil too.
  • Creamy components: We use cream cheese and heavy cream to make our sauce. Be sure to use full fat products for the best flavor and consistency.
  • Seasoning for sauce: A combination of oregano and basil add classic Italian flavors. You can also use Italian seasoning instead.
  • Shredded Parmesan: For plenty of nutty and cheesy flavor.
  • Bacon: Our favorite addition! It adds a savory, salty, and smoky component.

Be sure to scroll down and review the entire ingredient list and quantities you need of each one.

Variations

  • Chicken shortcut: Need to save more time? Use rotisserie chicken instead and skip the step of cooking the chicken.
  • Try a different protein: Swap the chicken for Italian sausage or shrimp.
  • Add some vegetables: Broccoli florets, spinach, and mushrooms are a delicious addition to the recipe. You can cook the spinach and mushrooms with the aromatics while the broccoli works best if you blanch it ahead of time and add it at the end just to heat up.
  • Skip the bacon: This chicken bacon tortellini dish is great with or without it! You can even use some leftover ham if you’ve got it on hand.
  • Try a pink sauce: Stir in some marinara or pasta sauce to add a hint of tomato flavor to the sauce.

This is a straightforward recipe that’s incredibly easy to make. Even beginners will have no problem with it.

  1. Step 1: Cook the Chicken. Melt the butter and cook the bite size pieces of chicken in a skillet over medium heat. Season with the Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the chicken and cook until the chicken is fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  2. Step 2: Cook the Bacon. Cook the bacon over medium-high heat until crispy. Drain, cool, and then crumble it up.
  3. Step 3: Cook the Tortellini. Cook the tortellini according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
  4. Step 4: Make the Alfredo Sauce. Add the cream cheese, onions, and garlic to the same skillet. Add the heavy cream, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to the skillet when the cream cheese is almond melted. Stir and continue to cook on low until melted. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese into the pan and cook stirring frequently until the sauce thickens up – about 15 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Assemble. When the sauce reaches the desired consistency add the the chicken, tortellini, and bacon. Stir together and it’s ready to serve. Enjoy!

Experts Tips

  • Easy Cleanup. Use the same pan for cooking the chicken and Alfredo sauce. It means less dishes to make but also the pan will retain flavor from the chicken that will transfer to the sauce.
  • Don’t Overcook the Tortellini. Cook your tortellini to al dente. You don’t want it to be mushy.
  • Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. To reheat, place it in a saucepan and heat over medium heat until heated through. Add some more cream if you need to think it out.
  • Full Fat Dairy: You can use half and half if you want to make the sauce a bit healthier but the sauce will not be as rich and creamy.
