Poppers and pastries – they’re both classic party foods. Whether you’re hosting a breakfast, brunch, or backyard party, pastries are always welcome. Likewise, you won’t find a backyard bash or game day table that doesn’t have poppers on them. Because I love making mashups of my favorite food – and I love both of these myself – I decided to make these jalapeno puff pastries. They’re easy and delicious, and they’re the perfect marriage of jalapeno popper flavor and buttery puff pastry dough!

Jalapeno Popper Puff Pastry

These pastries start with a puff pastry pinwheel base. Then, I top them with a jalapeno popper mixture loaded with the classic flavors of cream cheese, bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and zesty spices. I bake them until golden brown and watch them disappear. That’s all there is to it! I love serving these at all kinds of parties, and I always pair them with classic popper dips to complete the flavor profile.

How to Make Jalapeno Popper Puff Pastries

Making these pastries is super easy. You just need to do a little sauteing. After that, it’s nothing more than mixing, topping, and baking.

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Step 2: Fry the Bacon

Cook the bacon in a frying pan over medium heat until crisp. Then, transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 3: Cook the Jalapenos

Add the jalapenos to the same pan and cook until tender. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.

Step 4: Make the Popper Filling

Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese in a medium bowl for 2 to 3 minutes until fluffy. Then, add the seasonings and beat again. Add the jalapenos, green onions, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheese and mix with a spatula until combined.

Step 5: Make the Pinwheels

Cut each pastry sheet into 8 strips. Pinch the ends of two strips together to form one long strip. Repeat with all the strips. Twist the long strip until it forms a braided piece. Then, place one end on the parchment paper and wrap it around itself to form a pinwheel. Repeat with the remaining strips.

Step 6: Top

Add a spoonful of jalapeno popper mixture to the center of each pastry.

Step 7: Bake

Whisk the egg and water together, then brush each pastry with the mixture. Bake for 25 to 27 minutes until golden. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Fully soften your cream cheese for the richest, creamiest filling.
  • Your puff pastry should be pliable but still as cold as possible while working with it.
  • Cook bacon over medium heat so it gets crispy without burning.
  • Be sure to remove all the jalapeno seeds. They are the hottest part.
  • Wash your hands after handling hot peppers, and NEVER touch your face.

Variations

  • Use your favorite brand and flavor of bacon. They all work!
  • Try using Hatch chiles for a milder version of this recipe.
  • You can make this filling with cooked ground chorizo in place of bacon for a tasty twist.

What to Serve with Jalapeno Popper Pastries

Serve these pastries with all of your other favorite party foods like pigs in a blanket, BBQ sausages, and the like. You can also pair them with your favorite popper sauces like BBQ, bleu cheese, ranch, honey mustard, and any others you love.
